TRANSOCEAN® industrial horizontal kneader machine is an ideal machine for kneading, mixing, vulcanizing, and polymerizing of highly viscous elastic-plastic materials. Usually two Σ paddles are arranged side by side tangentially. One mixing paddle runs fast and the other one runs slowly, in order to generate strong shear force, so that the semi-dry or rubbery viscous materials react and are mixed quickly. The kneading machine is mainly composed of a kneading mechanism, a base, a hydraulic system, a transmission system and an electronic control system.

Sigma Kneader Mixer

TRANSOCEAN® vacuum sigma kneader mixer is an ideal equipment for mixing, kneading, crushing, stirring, vulcanizing, and re-polymerizing of highly viscous, highly elastic-plastic materials that are prone to air bubbles during processing. The kneading mixer is mainly composed of six parts: kneading mechanism, machine base, hydraulic system, transmission system, vacuum system and electronic control system.

Components of Kneader Mixer
 

Mixing Section: This section mainly consists of rotors, the mixing chamber, and sealing devices.

 

Feeding Section: It primarily includes the feeding chamber, a hopper-shaped feed inlet, and a flap door (feed door). The main function of this section is to facilitate feeding and temporary storage of materials.

 

Pressing Section: This section is mainly composed of the upper ram and a cylinder that drives the upper ram to move up and down. Its primary function is to apply pressure to the material, accelerating the mixing process and improving the effectiveness of the mixing.

 

Discharge Section: This section consists mainly of the lower ram installed beneath the mixing chamber and its locking mechanism. Its primary function is to discharge the material after mixing is complete. The lower ram can be cooled with water, and its surface that contacts the material should be overlaid with wear-resistant alloy to increase its durability.

 

Base: Primarily composed of the machine base, which may be divided into the main machine base and the transmission base. Its function is to support the kneader mixer by providing a platform for mounting the components of the main machine and the transmission system.

 

Heating and Cooling System: Mainly consists of pipes and distributors to circulate cooling water or steam through the cavities of the mixing chamber, rotors, and upper and lower rams to control the temperature of the material. Imported kneader mixers are equipped with a temperature control device that uses constant-temperature water for heating and cooling. The purpose is to control the material temperature during the mixing process according to process requirements.

 

Hydraulic System: Composed mainly of a dual vane oil pump, rotary cylinder, reciprocating cylinder, pipes, and an oil tank. It provides power for the discharge mechanism and is used to control the opening and closing of the lower ram and its locking mechanism.

 

Pneumatic System: Consists mainly of cylinders, pistons, a cylinder for the feed door, air valves, pipes, and compressed air. It supplies power for the feeding and pressing mechanisms, controlling the lifting and pressing of the upper ram as well as the opening and closing of the flap door.

 

Electrical Control System: Composed mainly of a control box, operating console, and various electrical instruments. It serves as the operational center for the entire machine.

 

Lubrication System: Consists mainly of an oil pump, oil distributor, and pipes. Its purpose is to reduce friction in various rotating parts (such as rotating shafts, bearings, and sealing rings of sealing devices) by injecting lubricating oil. This reduces friction between moving parts and extends their service life.

 

Kneader Mixer Workflow

Feeding:

The materials that need to be mixed and plasticized are added to the feed port of the kneader mixer. The upper ram, driven by air pressure, presses the materials into the mixing chamber.

Mixing:

The two rotors with spiral ridges and speed ratios begin to rotate in opposite directions. Within the mixing system formed by the upper and lower rams, the materials are subjected to continuously changing, repeated intense shearing and compression forces, resulting in shear deformation and vigorous kneading. Due to the spiral ridges on the rotors, the materials undergo repeated axial reciprocating motion during mixing, enhancing the stirring effect and making the mixing more intense.

Discharging:

After the mixing process is complete, the lower ram opens, and the discharge door of the kneader mixer opens to release the mixed materials. The materials processed by the kneader mixer are discharged as viscous lumps.
